OUR FIRST INGREDIENT

Guaraná — where our journey begins

In Maués, guaraná is more than an ingredient. It is part of the identity of a place.

The guaraná KAIA is introducing to international product developers comes through relationships built at origin over many years, together with an understanding of how cultivation, roasting, peeling, selection and milling can influence the ingredient that ultimately reaches a formulation.

For us, knowing the ingredient means understanding both its story and its specification.

MORE THAN A SOURCE OF CAFFEINE

Guaraná has been woven into life in Maués for generations, long before it entered modern energy and functional-beverage markets.

The region has also attracted scientific interest. Selected research has examined habitual guaraná consumption among older residents and reported associations with certain metabolic and oxidative markers.

These studies do not establish that guaraná causes longevity or prevents disease. They add another layer of scientific curiosity to a plant whose relationship with Maués runs far deeper than its caffeine content.

Science continues to explore questions that have surrounded guaraná at origin for generations.

NOT ALL GUARANÁ IS THE SAME.

In Maués, guaraná intended for direct consumption is traditionally harvested ripe, pulped, washed, roasted and peeled before milling.

Removing the outer shell changes the sensory experience of the ingredient, creating a finer and less astringent profile than guaraná commonly milled with the shell.

For product developers, these differences matter. Texture, flavour, particle size and processing can influence how guaraná performs in beverages, chocolate, gels, powders and other formulations.

Developing a new food, beverage, chocolate or functional product? Explore selected Maués guaraná firsthand and discover what its origin, processing and sensory characteristics could bring to your next formulation.

From Maués

A place shaped by guaraná.

Maués, in the Brazilian state of Amazonas, has one of the world’s deepest historical relationships with guaraná.

Our guaraná is selected, roasted, peeled, hand-selected and finely milled in Maués, Amazonas.

Here, production is not simply agriculture. It is knowledge passed through generations, adapted to rivers, seasons, communities and the realities of life in the Amazon.

Small production volumes, manual harvesting and traditional processing make this fundamentally different from large-scale commodity agriculture.

We don't want to turn this into a commodity.

We want to preserve what makes it valuable.

Amazonian Cacao + Guaraná

When natural energy meets chocolate.

What if a functional product didn’t have to choose between purpose and pleasure?

Amazonian cacao and Maués guaraná come together in an existing product concept that demonstrates exactly the kind of innovation KAIA wants to explore.

Chocolate becomes more than confectionery — it becomes a platform for discovering how exceptional Amazonian ingredients can work together in entirely new ways.

FUNCTIONAL. ENJOYABLE. DISTINCTLY AMAZONIAN.

Applications

Biodiversity Made Usable

Selected Amazonian & Brazilian Botanicals.

Some Amazonian plants are extraordinary at origin but difficult to bring into global product development because of perishability, logistics and limited shelf life.

Modern processing technologies such as freeze-drying can transform selected plants into stable, lightweight powders, opening new possibilities for formulation, transportation and international markets.
